First Board of Directors Appointed to IEEE Industry Standards and Technology
Organization

Four high-level
industry executives were appointed this week to serve as members
of the first Board of Directors of the IEEE Industry Standards
and Technology Organization (IEEE-ISTO). The first IEEE-ISTO Board
of Directors was appointed by the IEEE Board of Directors to serve
a two-year term commencing 1 January 2000. The IEEE-ISTO Board
of Director appointees are:
- George
W. Arnold, Vice President, Standards & Intellectual Property,
Lucent Technologies Bell Laboratories;
- Richard
J. Holleman, Director of Standards, Intellectual Property &
Licensing, IBM Corporation;
- Marco W.
Migliaro, P.E., Chief Electrical/I&C Engineer, Nuclear Division,
Florida Power & Light Company; and
- Edward
M. Roney, Corporate Vice President and Director of Standards
and Technology Transfer, Motorola, Inc.
Formed in
January 1999, the IEEE-ISTO is a not-for-profit corporation offering
standards-related industry groups an innovative and flexible operational
forum and support services. Currently the Medical Device Communications
Industry Group, the Printer Working Group, and the Nexus 5001™
Forum are organized as programs of the IEEE-ISTO.
"The
members of the first IEEE-ISTO Board of Directors will be very
instrumental and active in the future success and evolution of
the organization," said Andrew Salem, president and CEO of the
IEEE-ISTO.
Working in
conjunction with the IEEE-ISTO's two staff officers, the president
and CEO and the secretary treasurer and CFO, the IEEE-ISTO Board
of Directors will manage the business and affairs of the IEEE-ISTO.
This includes approving Participant Group applications and agreements,
providing financial oversight, serving as industry representatives
to promote the use of the IEEE-ISTO by organizations in their
industry, and approving the IEEE-ISTO's output and products.
The IEEE-ISTO
provides a forum not only to develop standards, but also to facilitate
activities that support the implementation and acceptance of standards
in the marketplace. The organization is affiliated with the IEEE
