IEEE-ISTO Board of Directors Gains Three New Members

Three high-technology
industry executives were recently appointed to serve on the Board
of Directors of the IEEE Industry Standards and Technology Organization
(IEEE-ISTO). James R. Williamson of Sony Electronics, Don Wright
of Lexmark International, and Gerald T. Lane of IBM, will each
serve two-year terms on the Board. Their appointment, which commenced
1 January 2001, was formalized by a vote of the IEEE Board of
Directors.
The recent
appointments bring the number of IEEE-ISTO Directors to seven.
Other members of the IEEE-ISTO Board are:
- George
W. Arnold, Vice President, Standards & Intellectual Property,
Lucent Technologies Bell Laboratories
- Marco W.
Migliaro, P.E., Chief Electrical/I&C Engineer, Nuclear Division,
Florida Power & Light Company
- Edward
M. Roney, Corporate Vice President and Director of Standards
and Technology Transfer, Motorola, Inc.
- Andrew
Salem, President and CEO, IEEE-ISTO
Migliaro will
serve as the Chair of the IEEE-ISTO Board of Directors in 2001.
Each of the
three new IEEE-ISTO Directors has extensive experience in the
development of standards or in research and development in his
industry:
- James R.
Williamson is Director of the Technology Standards Office for
Sony Electronics, Inc. Williamson has worked in the Electronics
Industry for 22 years, and in that time developed technical
expertise in the fields of networking, telecom, personal computer
storage devices, and video. He has been an IEEE member since
1982.
- Don Wright
is Director of Alliances and Standards for Lexmark International.
In that position, Wright is responsible for technical alliances
and standards for network and business printers. Wright is a
long-time participant in printer standards, and currently is
the Chair of the Printer Working Group (a program of the IEEE-ISTO)
and IEEE's Microprocessor Standards Committee. He has been a
member of IEEE for 25 years.
- Gerald
T. Lane is the IBM Program Director of Standards Practices.
His duties include development of corporate standards plans,
strategies, goals, and policies, including setting the direction
of relations with standards organizations. Lane has worked in
the Information Technology industry for over 30 years, and in
that time worked extensively in all phases of operating system
development and most recently in support of IBM's efforts to
protect Intellectual Property.
The IEEE-ISTO
Board of Directors manages the business and affairs of the IEEE-ISTO.
This includes approving Participant Group applications and agreements,
providing financial oversight, serving as industry representatives
to promote the use of the IEEE-ISTO by organizations in their
industry, and approving the IEEE-ISTO's output and products.

January 1999, the IEEE-ISTO is a not-for-profit corporation offering
standards-related industry groups an innovative and flexible operational
forum and support. The IEEE-ISTO provides a forum not only to
develop standards, but also to facilitate activities that support
